Sustainability is not just a buzzword at OMG Indonesia. It is a concerted, continuous, company-wide effort to minimize our negative environmental impacts, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
OMG Indonesia and our group of companies are committed to this mission moving forwards. We’re determined to be delivering shopper marketing innovations and foster an internal company culture that is environmentally and ethically responsible.
Our media operations division has recently partnered with Waste4Change, a social enterprise providing waste management services for companies with an environmental-friendly and responsible approach toward zero-waste Indonesia. We asked Ine Marasudin, our operations director, to discuss some of these efforts.
Q: Why did you decide to work with Waste4Change, and what have they been helping our sustainability efforts?
Ine: As a company, we have been producing a lot of effective in-store marketing materials for our clients, including products like Shelfvision, Cartvision, Shelf Wobblers, Shelf Partitions, and so on.
We chose Waste4Change because of their professional and holistic approach to waste management, and they provide detailed reports to ensure that our waste are being managed sustainably.
Some of the materials we commonly use in our marketing materials include art carton paper, fibreboards, acrylic, plywood, polyfoam, laminating stickers, and more. They use RDF technology to break down these wastes, which are then recycled as fuel in factories rather than ending up in landfills.
Electronic parts that were creatively used (for example, to power lights, sound, or movement in in-store marketing materials) are carefully collected, cleaned, and sorted so that they can be reused in future projects. This way, we not only reduce electronic waste, but we also pass on cost savings to our clients.
At OMG Indonesia, we have also internally implemented numerous energy-saving and environmentally conscious initiatives. Calista Subrata, our property director, told us more about what we do as an office.
Q: What are some ways we are ensuring sustainable practices at our office building?
Calista: Our office building was strategically designed to let in as much natural light as possible. This has significantly minimized our energy consumption because we only need to turn on the lights when necessary. We also switched to LED lightbulbs, which have been up to 75% more energy efficient.
We have also implemented a waste management system within our office building. Additionally, we have distinct primary trash zones for organic, non-organic, and toxic waste, which considerably facilitates the processing of our office waste by our waste management partner.
Additionally, we are making the building greener by adding additional plants, particularly in the outdoor and rooftop areas. It has been demonstrated that having greenery surrounding offices and other work spaces is excellent for the environment and benefits employees' health and overall well-being. We have noticed that the extra plants have naturally lowered the temperature, reducing the demand for air-conditioning. Additionally, greenery enhances office air quality, increases focus, and helps alleviate eye strain.
As the property director, I'm always looking for innovative ways to improve the OMG office building so that it is a pleasant and environmentally-conscious place to work from.
